The Journey of Tea
Daguan Pavilion
Daguan Pavilion is located in Taichung, Taiwan, at an elevation of 2,580 meters - the highest point of Fushoushan Farm.
It once served as a summer retreat for President Chiang Kai-shek.
The farm is known for producing the famous Fushou Changchun Tea, and the building illustrated on its packaging is Daguan Pavilion itself.
Beyond being a summer retreat, Daguan Pavilion was also a place where President Chiang made several important national decisions, including:
1. In 1958, the “Thunder Plan” to provide 8-inch artillery support to Kinmen during the August 23 Artillery Bombardment
2. In 1967, the planning and drafting of the nine-year compulsory national education system
3. In 1973, the preliminary draft of Taiwan’s Ten Major Construction Projects
In front of Daguan Pavilion lies a small pond known as Tianchi (Heavenly Pond).
It is said to be a place rich in spiritual energy - walking around the pond three times is believed to help wishes come true.
Beside the pond is a platform considered the most energetically concentrated spot, where some visitors even sit in meditation.
The small flower seen at the end belongs to the poppy family (the same plant family associated with opium production).
It is one of the few poppy species legally grown in Taiwan for ornamental purposes.
This flower cannot be used for harmful purposes and is known as the Shirley poppy (Papaver rhoeas), called Yu Mei Ren in Chinese.
