2026 Zhushan International Tea Ceremony Festival | Highlights from the Japanese & Korean Tea Ceremony Events

Hello everyone,

I'm Andy, a tea enthusiast.

The 2026 Zhushan International Tea Ceremony Festival welcomed something truly special this year:

tea masters from both Japan and Korea traveled to Zhushan to perform live.

It was a rare gathering, where three distinct tea cultures shared the same stage.

Korean Tea Ceremony: A Performance by the Korean Tea Culture Association

The Korean delegation was led by Master Park Ju-hong of the Korean Tea Culture Association,

joined by senior instructors including a board director, the president of the Seoul Branch,

and a lineage-holder of Gyubang Charye (閨房茶禮), the traditional Korean women's tea ceremony.

The team has extensive academic and practical experience and has performed internationally in Japan and Mongolia.

Korea brought two performances to the festival:

Saenghwal Charye (everyday tea ritual) and Munin Charye (literati tea ritual).

Together they conveyed the philosophy of inner cultivation,

daily wisdom, and humanistic spirit embedded in Korean tea culture.

Japanese Tea Ceremony: The Japan-Taiwan Friendship Tea Gathering

The Japanese programme was presented under the name Japan-Taiwan Friendship Tea Gathering (日台友好茶會),

drawing on the long history of friendship between Japan and Taiwan,

with an additional lens on the cultural role of sugar in connecting the two places.

The ceremony centred on the spirit of Ichigo Ichie (一期一會) and Ichimi Doshin (一味同心) from Japanese matcha culture.

A hanging scroll bearing the phrase "Harmony is most precious" (以和為貴) was displayed as the symbolic centrepiece,

expressing a vision for continuing cultural exchange between Japan and Taiwan.

Three Tea Cultures, One Stage

Three performances in total graced the festival:

Korea's Saenghwal Charye and Munin Charye, and Japan's Japan-Taiwan Friendship Tea Gathering.

The rich oolong tradition of Taiwan, the serene elegance of Japanese matcha ceremony,

and the everyday beauty of Korean tea ritual each carried their own depth, yet all found common ground in Zhushan.

We are delighted to share the highlights of this international gathering with everyone.

We warmly welcome you to come and experience it for yourself next year.

Hope this has been helpful. See you next time.
